Biography

Ms Lyn Kam started her ballet training at the late age of 9 in Malaysia after convincing her parents to allow her to dance. She trained with the Royal Academy of Dancing at the Federal Academy of Ballet (FAB) and has completed her Grades 1-8 and Majors till Advanced 1. Although technically challenged, her passion for dance never stopped, and she regularly sat in to watch her mentor conduct lessons and was inspired to pass on her love for dancing in the same manner.

Ms Lyn was able to go to Hong Zhou, China to participate and represent the Malaysian congregation at the International Children’s Games and Folk Dance Festival in 2008, giving her a hand at trying out traditional dances such as “Piring (Plate Dance)” and “Ngajat (Hornbill Dance)”. She also regularly attended dance workshops whenever the school holidays were about to improve her skills.

Ms Lyn has been teaching since 2010 and has had the opportunity to choreograph several dances for FAB bi-annual school concerts. After obtaining her A-Levels, she then pursued a Dancer’s Training Program by Damansara Performing Arts Center (DPAC); an intensive dance study for six months which introduced her to Contemporary Dance and Social Art Studies.

Ms Lyn completed her Royal Academy of Dance Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies (CBTS) in 2013 under the tutelage of Ms Sandra Christian and had sent students in with visible improvements ever since. She is an appointed Registered Teacher of the RAD. Other than teaching, she regularly attends courses to keep herself up to date with the newest changes in the syllabus as well as exchanging teaching techniques with other teachers.

With a thirst to continually improve herself and her students, Ms Lyn trained and is certified to teach the Progressive Ballet Technique. Developed by Marie Walton-Mahon, this method is recognized by the RAD and internationally known.

Ms Lyn is currently pursuing a distance learning course by the RAD in Benesh Movement Notation to improve her accuracy and quality of dance further when teaching.

She is also pursuing her Degree (BA) in Dance by RAD.
