Dance is an art form transcending the barriers of language and culture. We focus on Dance as an Education
Choosing a Dance School
How to choose a dance School is often a vexed question that many intending student or parent have. We are frequently asked what sets Dancepointe Academy apart from other Dance schools or Community Centre dance courses.
First and foremost, one has to recognise that there is no Government regulation requiring a dance teacher to have any qualifications. Anyone can open a dance studio and commence teaching. However, we believe strongly in progressive and quality learning. Dancepointe Academy engages qualified teachers graduated from the RAD Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies (CBTS) programme or Degree and Diploma holders from Dance institutions in Singapore such as NAFA and Lasalle College of the Arts and overseas Dance Schools such as Falmouth University U.K and Central Ballet London. These are mainly for Ballet and Contemporary. For Street Dance teachers, it will be mainly those who have vast experiences in competitions and teachings. However, we do have Street Dance teachers from Korea and they have Dance Diploma or Degree from the schools in Seoul.
Wide Dance Discipline/Style
Dancepointe Academy Singapore is well defined into 4 Dance Faculties, each leads by an Artistic Principal who is well known in the industry : Dancepointe for Classical Ballet, 5th Avenue for Jazz and Street Dance, Dance Factory for Kpop, dACADEMY for Contemporary.
Flexible Objectives to Learn Dance
You may wish your child to become involved in dance as a purely recreational pastime or as a vocational certification leading to performing or teaching.
Competitions, Examinations or…
We offer opportunities for our students to compete in Asia Pacific Dance Competitions or to sit for International recognised examinations or in some cases, simply the satisfaction of becoming involved in the joy of dance through our fun-filled classes, dance explorations through excursions and Biennial Theatre Performance!
What Qualifications Should A Teacher Hold?
Well, we can start with Ballet and Hiphop teaching certificates from the RAD, CSTD, RSL, ATOD and the list goes on. Whilst one could argue that it is impossible to pass on knowledge if one has not gained structured qualifications, it is certainly true that many excellent teachers have chosen a different path in gaining the necessary knowledge and experience to become good teachers. In Dancepointe Academy, we believe in the importance of both qualifications and experiences. Our teachers selected are based on the following criteria:
- Min. RAD Ballet Advanced 1 level and been through all levels of syllabus since young.
- Achieved or working towards the Teachers’ Programme
- Added advantage if received a Dance Diploma from Singapore or International Dance Institutions
- Min 3 years of teaching experience.
The teachers are also sponsored yearly to attend teachers’ course to constantly upgrade themselves. These can assure the quality of our teachings for our students.
Which Syllabus Organisation or Examination Body Do You Use?
There are a number of dance syllabi organisations conducting examinations in Singapore. We adopt Royal Academy of Dance (RAD U.K) & Commonwealth Society of Teachers Dancing (CSTD Australia) syllabi for Classical Ballet, The Australian Teachers of Dancing (ATOD) for Jazz, Rock School London (RSL U.K) for Hip Hop and NATA U.K for Contemporary.
What Are The Benefits of Examinations?
A structured curriculum allows for progressive mastery of techniques and examinations provide the opportunity for pupils to be externally assessed by International standards. Once one can meet the specific levels of training, the pupil can be qualified to begin their teaching training.
What Is Our Student Success Rate?
We are happy to share our results in yearly examinations. Our students did us proud with a 100% Distinctions and Merits in all the Examinations.
Added on Value to Every Ballet Class?
Live Pianist Accompaniment which creates fun and develop musicality.
Not Only Teachers, We Believe in Customer Service
At Dancepointe Academy , we believe in delivering professional and quality Customer service. We strive to provide Promptness, Politeness, Professionalism and Personalisation, to make your dance experience as pleasant with us.
In Conclusion
Remember that when you are seeking to choose a dance school, you are the consumer. You have the responsibility to do your research and make sure that the services offered by the school are appropriate to your needs. We believe that teachers regardless of whether teaching the competition stream or preparing candidates for examinations should provide Enjoyment, Encouragement, Education and Expression though dance. Children particularly should enjoy learning to dance beyond just moving to music. We believe that a student who is stimulated will learn more readily and perform better. Whether in class, in an examination or on stage it is important to encourage students to give their best to the level of their own ability without being seen to be in competition with unrealistic standards.
Do not be afraid to ask questions and discuss your needs frankly, and once your class has started if you have a problem, communicate with the teacher or our school.
